5 Exciting Action-Adventure Games to Try Out in 2021
The video games launched this year have received high ratings, making 2023 a fantastic year for gamers. First-party games for PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo have been impressive, but third-party games have also been well received. This list includes five action-adventure games – both old and new – that you should consider playing this year.
Notably, the games listed here are in no particular order and include games from most platforms.
Starfield – PC, Xbox Series X/S
Starfield was arguably the most anticipated Xbox game of the last decade, and it’s Bethesda’s first new IP in nearly three decades. It’s basically a true Bethesda RPG, but with better shooter mechanics and gameplay compared to previous Bethesda games like Fallout 4. The game starts slow, but after a few hours it picks up speed and offers one of the best stories. in any space exploration game yet. It is available for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and can be played as part of Xbox Game Pass.
Final Fantasy XVI – PS5
If you’ve been wanting to get into Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XVI is worth checking out. Like the other games in the series, this game has a separate plot and you don’t need to have played the previous games. While going through the game, we found it to be quite engaging both in terms of story and gameplay. It tells the story of Clive Rosfield, who sets out to destroy all of Valisthea’s mother crystals.
If you want epic boss battles, great combat, a story full of twists and turns – something akin to Game of Thrones, Final Fantasy 16 is a must-play in 2023. It’s currently a timed exclusive for PS5, but a PC version is also on the cards for the future.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch
The sequel to 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom immerses you in the sprawling world of Hyrule. As a modern Zelda game, the possibilities of what you can do in the game are endless. Want to defeat some Bokoblins using a rocket-vehicle hybrid? It is possible. Do you want to make some crazy looking weapons and get into the grind? It is possible. Being Link has its perks, and while the game is mostly based on the same formula that Breath of the Wild introduced, Tears of the Kingdom takes things a step further and lets you do even more. The game offers a wealth of content, with side content being a particular highlight.
Hogwarts Legacy – PC, PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
If you’re a Potterhead, you shouldn’t waste time looking for a new game because Hogwarts Legacy is a game that deserves your time. A beautifully detailed world with e.g. Hogwarts Castle, Hogwartsmeade, Gringotts Bank – To the Forbidden Forest, this game offers fun battles consisting of casting spells and other combinations. Although it is an RPG through and through, the game’s story leaves nothing to be desired and is quite engaging. Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, the world of the Hogwarts legacy deserves your time.
God of War Ragnarok – PS5/PS4
A direct sequel to 2018’s God of War, Ragnarok features Kratos and Atreus facing off against a Norse pantheon of gods, including Thor and Odin – the Allfather himself. It is an engaging story with very few ups and downs. Not only does the story grab you and immerse you, but the game also impresses with its thorough combat systems. If you have a PS4 or PS5, you should definitely play it. If you haven’t played the 2018 game, we recommend starting there, as this story is a direct continuation.
